Surprise! Change of Plans...

Like I mentioned in the last post, Kevin and I found out on August 9th that we were expecting another baby. The due date would be mid-April according to babycenter.com and Eli would be 2 and a half exactly by then.

I began thinking about what all we could reuse of Eli’s, which kid would have which room, etc. I decided that we would use the nursery for the second baby and give Eli the larger room with a new bed. I had it all "planned"out.

We thought about daycare cost and vehicles and all those not-as-fun-to-think-about parts of adding another child to the mix. But I thought, for the most part, I had it all "planned" out.

We were so excited to see Dr. Apgar for our first appointment. We went in for the highly anticipated, can’t-wait-to-hear-a-heartbeat-and-see-a-blurry-dot sonogram.

We saw the beating “dot” right away. Nice strong heartbeat. Any sense of anxiety was washed away. It’s the most beautiful sound you can hear. Then sonogram tech’s expression changed and I immediately asked, “what’s wrong?” She said, “Nothing’s wrong. I’m just trying to decide how to tell you this.”

And before we knew it, she shifted the sonogram thing to show us ANOTHER strong heartbeat. I nearly fell off the table and Kevin started laughing.

Yes, we are expecting twins! The due date is set for April 16, but they told us to plan on early to mid-March.

Let the adventure begin!

August 9th- A Very Special Day

August 9th is a very special day in the Kim household. It holds as much meaning to me as the big ones- anniversary, birthdays, holidays. I assume that most people who read this blog know that my pregnancy with Eli was not exactly a smooth one. Around the 19-20 week mark, we were told that he would most likely not survive the pregnancy. The doctors told us that his heart would fail before he would be strong enough and developed enough to make it on the outside. They said the earliest they would take him (via c-section and perform surgery) was at 28 weeks. Each week we went for at least one ultrasound to continue checking fluid levels around his heart. August 9th was the 28 week mark. When Eli’s heart was still strong at 28 weeks and he wasn’t showing signs of failure, Kevin and I went to dinner to celebrate. For 8 weeks, we had just prayed. And those prayers were answered.

So August 9th, 2008 was a day of anticipation, of hope, and of rejoicing. It was only fitting that August 9th, 2010 was filled with the same. Kevin and I had planned a couple day trip to Williamsburg. My parents had gifted us a 2 night stay at a bed and breakfast at Christmastime.

And Monday morning, August 9th, we found out that we are expecting.

Anticipation, hope, and rejoicing.

The Kim Men (and a bat)

Happy Birthday Papa!

Kevin's extended family came over last weekend to celebrate his Dad's 70th birthday. Eli took over the singing and the candle-blowing duties.

Finally a picture with the real birthday boy- Papa!

We told Eli to go sit by Mina for a picture. He ended up sitting ON her instead.

Meow

Eli is a fan of the book, Brown Bear by Eric Carle. On each page is a picture of an animal in a solid color. He's really into saying what's on each page. I'll read the words and then stop and have him fill in the color and animal. He does really well with yellow duck, green frog, blue horse, white dog, black sheep, and the funniest... purple meow.

He calls cats "meows." He usually calls Gracie "Sacie" but sometimes I hear him walk by her and say "Hi Meow!"

He was playing with a stuffed animal cat and his Little People bus the other day. I was watching him and started cracking up when he started talking to "Meow." Here was his one-sided conversation with Meow. "Here, Meow. In bus." (stuffs Meow inside the bus and giggles) "Meow in bus." (pulls Meow's face through side door). "Hi Meow. Tiss!" (gives Meow a kiss).

This kid cracks me up.

Ocean City Playground

There was a great playground a short walk away from our house. Eli loved it. I think we went there every day. And every day there were a ton of kids playing. There was a giant tube slide that Eli especially loved. Even this morning when I dropped him off at the sitter's, he was telling her about the "big slide."

Ocean City, MD

We spent last week in Ocean City, MD. We had absolutely perfect weather the entire week. The water was great, too. No jelly fish or seaweed.

Eli was a little hesitant about the sand and the water at first. After a couple of days, he started to enjoy it more and let us take him into the water.

He was a big fan of wearing his sunglasses all week. He was, as he says "a cool dude."

He was in and out onto this porch 800 times a day. All we heard was the screen door open and close over and over again. He played with his bus out there and occasionally took a break to mow the boogie board.
