A Splish Splashing Surprise from Daddy

Yesterday Kevin brought home a special surprise for Eli- a new baby pool. We filled it up, grabbed some toys, and put Eli in a swim suit and cap that Kevin's aunt sent from Korea. He looked hilarious. He had such a good time. I can tell this is going to be a big hit this summer. I wish it was big enough for me too!

Check me out. Obviously I work out.

This pool is good for lounging

Mom and Dad helped me scoop up these animals in my net

What are you looking at? Swim caps are cool.

Heat Wave!

Just what we've been waiting for... a weekend full of sunshine! We opened up our windows and doors yesterday, but then temperatures reached almost 90 degrees. Once it hit 85 in the house, we resorted to AC.

This weekend's big accomplishment (for both Eli and me) was carrots. I steamed and pureed a bunch. He seemed to like it, and I know he digested some- the proof was in his diaper this morning. I also steamed and pureed sweet potatoes, but we haven't tried those yet. Now we have little ice cube size servings of orange veggies in the freezer. Hello stinky diapers.

We also got to break out some of Eli's summer clothes. Kevin and I were cracking up at his oufit yesterday- blue athletic shorts and a tank top. There's a picture below...check out that muscle definition.

The rest of the weekend was spent playing and cleaning- pretty exciting stuff. Oh yeah, and the NFL draft. Now I am a football fan, but draft weekend always drives me nuts for some reason. I'd rather not watch the long, drawn out process (just hurry up and pick already!) and just read the list the next day. But anyway...

Here are a few more pictures... sitting up... playing in his new toy bin...
Eli has his 6 month appointment tomorrow. I'm excited to see how much he has grown!

Baby Bargains!

My friend Christine told me about this great children's sale called 'Nearly New' that takes place twice a year at the Howard County fairgrounds. Crazy people lined up at the door with cash in one hand and their kids in tow. The doors opened at 8am, and it was a free for all. Women were weaving in and out with their strollers trying to beat each other to the best bargains. The poor waddling pregnant women didn't stand a chance. It was like a giant yard sale with a bunch of different familes selling their kids stuff. Some stuff was overpriced, but there were lots of treasures, too. It turned out to be very worthwhile. Our main mission was to find a jumperoo, but we didn't want to spend $80 for a brand new one. We found one in great condition for $20. I had my eye out for a high chair, too, but I didn't see one that I wanted. I also found some good deals on clothes and shoes and a CD that I had my eye on. I'm sure most of you couldn't care less about this post, but I was pretty excited!

The new Jumperoo- all cleaned up

Kevin found this cute spring/fall jacket

Kevin also found this jersey ($1), but Eli won't be big enough to wear it until he's 12... :)

You might see this again on the Kim family Christmas card

cute sweater

I found these pants in the jumperoo lady's section- 25 cents each

Robeez- 2 for $10, washed and ready for Eli's piggies

On Sunday afternoon, I took Eli outside for some pictures. I know every picture I post is of him on his tummy. He's only sitting up for about 4 seconds at a time, so it's hard to get a good picture. I'm sure he'll be sitting up and posing before long! Until then...more tummy cuteness.

If at First You Don't Succeed...

So the first day of cereal didn't go so well. He was not a fan of the spoon! It was pretty traumatic for him, but really funny for Kevin and me. I tried again today, and it went much better. I made the cereal thicker and let Eli "help." He put the spoon in his mouth- sometimes the right way, sometimes upside down! Here are some pictures from "Cereal: Take One"

So, what's going on here? Why the bib?

I'm not so sure I want to try this "cereal" thing

Daddy, I don't want it!!

I said, I DON'T WANT IT!

That's it. Let me out of here!

I hate spoons! I hate cereal! This is the worst!

6 Months Old Today!

Eli,
Today you are 6 months old. Wow. You’re such a growing boy, and you seem to learn new things every day. Here’s what you’ve been up to:

You rolled stomach to back for Daddy a couple times on April 2. Then you rolled back to front for Mim on April 8. You haven’t stopped since. Daddy and I are trying to tell you that this should strictly be a daytime activity! The past couple of nights you’ve woken up crying because you rolled over and got stuck on your tummy.

You love grabbing onto people’s faces- cheeks, nose, whatever you can grab and hold onto. You especially love grabbing Mommy’s cheeks and trying to “nurse” on her nose.

We're not sure how you produce all that drool. We’re thankful that you rarely spit up, but you still manage to drool through a couple outfits a day! You give wet, slobbery kisses and are still “eating” everything in sight.

You are so engaged in your toys and books. You love pop-up books and, of course, try to eat all the animals that pop up on the pages. You turn the pages and try to just grab the whole book and shove it in your mouth. You’re a busy little guy on your exersaucer. You spin around making all the gadgets light up and play music. Sometimes we’ll hear a little thud and see a part that you’ve thrown across the kitchen floor.

You love to eat. Today will be your first day of real food- rice cereal- but boy do you love nursing and your bottles! If you see your bottle across the room, you go crazy. It’s like trying to hold back a wild animal when we’re squeezing the air out.

Sleep… you teased us with some good nights. You were sleeping through the night and then…whammy. You go to bed at 7:30 and are usually up a few times at night. Mommy doesn't nurse you in the middle of the night anymore. Sometimes you’ll sleep until 6:30, but lots of times you will wake up before then. We find you in all kinds of crazy positions- on your tummy, upside down, totally sideways, wedged into the side of the crib.

You are a pooping machine. You went through a phase a couple weeks ago where you pooped every few days. You were like a ticking time bomb. Now you seem to be back on a more regular schedule. Must be that fiber we put in your bottle… just kidding! But your diapers are lethal. We hear they get worse with solid foods. We can’t even imagine.

You don’t like strangers anymore. Your face turns bright red and you scream if someone you’re unfamiliar with tries to hold you before you’re ready. Once you warm up, you’re a lovey little guy.

You’re the sweetest boy in the world. These past 6 months have been quite an adventure. We love watching you learn new tricks and get so excited and proud of yourself. Your smiles and giggles are so precious. We treasure every moment with you. Even those at 3am.

Love,
Mommy & Daddy

Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Sorry I've been absent for awhile. It's been a busy time. Easter was WONDERFUL. We spent a long weekend in Milton with my family. Eli got to spend some time with his Aunt Muffin (Linsey) and Mrs. Allen on Saturday. We ate Easter dinner on Saturday night with Nan and Aunt Jo. My mom prepared a great meal, and my dad made a great dessert. My mom had peanutbutter eggs made for each of us with our names on them and used them as placecards. It was so nice being all together. After dinner, Eli got a bath in the living room. He was very entertaining-splashing around and making a mess!

My Dad sings in the choir at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene. The choir put on an amazing performance Sunday morning called Raise the Crown. It was incredible. Eli was watching until the sandman got him about halfway through. After the service, Pop took Eli all around and introduced him to so many people. He was quite a hit and looked very handsome in his new Easter outfit.

After church on Sunday, we posed for some pictures and opened Eli's presents. Uncle Nathan gave him two really cool toys. My parents filled an "Eli tub" with all kinds of fun stuff- he even got some board shorts and matching surfer shirt. They match the new sunglasses he got from his mommy and daddy. My parents also had a book made for him. Each page spells out a letter of his name.

Enough of this typing. Here are some more pictures!

I'll post family pics soon...

Since we couldn't take them both to Sears...

Kevin tried to get some pictures of the "kids" together. Not so easy when one is 5 1/2 months old and the other is a furball.

Ok, Gracie, look at the camera

Eli, don't pull the kitty's fur

Eli, no squeezing the cat.

Gracie, get back here...

As good as it gets.
