Time to Celebrate

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Happy Birthday Jesus!

Party!

Last weekend I hosted a Christmas party for some of my Enterprise friends and our kiddos. There were 6 of us and 9 of them, so it was crazy! We had a really good time and the kids were incredibly well-behaved and played really well together. It was nice way to kick off the Christmas season.

I'd like to note that ALL nine kids are on the couch and not crying. Score.

The Countdown

We're enjoying Advent this year. The boys are liking the Advent Book Countdown, and this is the first year for Eli to have a traditional chocolate advent calendar too. To say he likes it is a huge understatement.

Eli and Kevin went to the tree farm this year sans Mommy and the littles. Kevin let Eli pick out the tree, and let's just say that beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. That beholder being Eli and Eli alone. It's sort of missing two whole sides and the star on top is permanently wonky. But he loves it, so it's perfect for us!

Someone told him he couldn't have a snack.

O Christmas Tree

Thank you Pinterest! I found an image of a giant felt tree that someone made so her toddler would have a tree to play with and stay away from their real tree. I pinned it, not really sure how expensive felt was or if my kids would like it.

On a trip to JoAnn's, I discovered that felt is, in fact, quite cheap during holiday sale time. So I got a bunch of colors and made this tree. The kids love it. They've decorated and re-decorated countless times. I'm pretty sure this will be a hit for seasons to come!

Operation Christmas Child

Our church participates in Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse, and I thought Eli might really like to fill some boxes this year. We chose two boy boxes, both ages 5-9. Eli and I went to a few stores and found some great stuff- toys and school supplies and practical things like soap and toothbrushes. We had a fun time jamming everything in the boxes. We were given a sheet to fill out with information about Eli and our family, and we glued a picture of Eli on it too.

Our church operated as a relay center this year. Our goal was to collect 500 boxes from our own congregation. We ended up collecting 812! The Frederick area as a whole collected over 10,000 boxes to send all over the world.

This year we had the option of tracking our boxes. Both of our boxes have tracking numbers, and we will receive an email about their destinations. I'm excited to see which countries they go to!

It was a great lesson for Eli to learn this season about little girls and boys that have so little. He said he was excited to "get presents for our boys so that they will be happy and won't cry." We heard that in some countries, the contents of the box are equivalent to one month's wages. That's just incredible.

We hope "our" boys have a very special Christmas this year!
