Weekend with Grandma and Grandpa

Kevin's parents came over to watch Eli last Saturday night so that Kevin and I could go to dinner and then to our friend Amanda's birthday party. It was nice to have an adult evening out. The next day Bill, Julie, and Mina joined us to celebrate Kevin's mom's birthday. Here are some pictures.

Eli's always the one to hightail it out of the picture. So dramatic.

Playdate with Julia

Julia Walsh came over to play today. Eli was napping when she got here, so I took advantage of my time with her and took some cute pictures. When Eli got up, these two became instant friends. They "talked" to each other the whole time. And Eli chased after her giving her hugs and kisses (pictures below). They enjoyed a meal together of pureed cauliflower and peas and cinnamon apples. After lunch was over, they were off- up the stairs, playing on the slide, playing with puzzles, playing shape sorter, up the stairs again, dancing to silly songs, and did I say up the stairs? Please come back and play again soon Julia. We had so much fun!

Static Hair and Eli's Other Loves....

Eli loves...
  • crawling/diving all over the couch
  • hiding under the blanket and then laughing when we pull it off and see his static hair
  • oyster crackers
  • crawling down the steps backwards
  • playing in the bathtub after the water drains out
  • phones
  • his giant blocks
  • to act like he's going to give you a bite of his food and then laughs and puts it in his mouth instead
  • to have his socks put on

World's Biggest Icicle

I'm not looking forward to that thing crashing down on our driveway!

Blizzard Continued

...We're all shoveled out. Sort of-Kevin just looked outside and the plow just blocked us back in. :( We've had a lot of fun playing today- so much fun that a certain somebody really didn't want to take a nap. Once Eli gets up, we're heading over to the Fleming's house. They had a Super Bowl party planned for tonight for Shawn's fantasy football friends, but they are going to have a lot of food and not any people. 30 inches of snow can really mess up plans! So we're going to help them eat it all. :)

Not that anyone will care about this, but I exceeded my cooking goals for the weekend. Here's the final list of what I made: beef potpie, spaghetti sauce, white chocolate/pretzel/peanut bark, peach crumb cake, tuna noodle casserole, and in the oven right now- Sour Cream Chicken and Broccoli Quiche.

After a weekend of wearing sweats and no makeup, I'm looking forward to leaving the house- even if we're not leaving the neighborhood! Here are some pictures of Eli out in the snow.

Back in and toasty warm!

Buried in Snow!!

The Blizzard of 2010 actually came. The last I heard we were supposed to expect 12 inches on the ground by this morning. When we turned on the news this morning, they were reporting that Frederick had 26 inches. It's been snowing ever since, so add a few inches to that total. We're expected to get snow until 7pm. It's absolutely beautiful but wet and heavy. Thank goodness we still have power- most of the power outages in the DC/MD/VA area are in MD, so we're lucky.

Eli's napping, Kevin's shoveling, and I'm cooking and cleaning. So far, it's fun being snowed in! I hope we can get Eli out and pull him on the sled tomorrow. Here are some pictures:

Our deck... and man I really wanted to fire up the grill today!

We're Home and We're Ready for You Snow!

Ok, well Eli and I are home. Kevin's office closes at 4pm. I'm logged into my work computer so that I can tend to all those business travelers that will inevitably contact (read: annoy) me with their travel changes and cancellations. Times like these I feel like I turn into a reservation agent.

But anyway, Eli and I are safe and sound and probably won't be back on the roads until Sunday. I sent Kevin to the land of craziness last night (i.e. grocery store) with a list so that I would have ingredients for this weekend. That's one of my favorite parts about being snowed in- the yummy food that gets made. On the list for this weeknd (and I doubt this will all get made): Sour Cream Chicken Quiche, Beef Potpie, Peach Dump Cake, and spaghetti sauce.

The snow has already started, although it's not sticking that much yet. We're supposed to have 12 inches by morning and snow all day Saturday for a total of 20-28 inches. The weather people are getting really dramatic about thist storm- calling it "paralyzing." I'm hearing it's being called the Snowpocolypse.

Happy Snowstorm everyone!

What Eli's Been Up To

  • Waking up at night every night for the last week
  • Being a cranky little guy
  • Popping two molars (explains the top two!)
  • Stirring- he carries around empty containers/sippy cups and spoons and "stirs"
  • Talking on the "phone"- I put phone in quotes because I use the term very loosely. He holds up to his ear the house phone, cell phones, remotes, coasters, gloves, and occasionally the dish towel
  • Saying some new words- we've heard duck and sock, but only a couple of times
  • Saying Momma/Dada more in context and more often- it's so cute!

This Past Weekend

Eli and I spent Saturday cooking and getting ready for Sean and Michele to come over for dinner. Then the stinking snow came and ruined that! So I found myself with a 3 pound roast cooking in the crock pot and more mashed potatoes on the stove than Kevin and I could eat in a week. So he called our friend Shawn who was home with his two kids while his wife was out of town. Amanda was expected home later that evening, so we asked (begged) him to come over and eat! Amanda came over later that night. What a fun time. I almost didn't let them take their 5 month old son Evan home that night. I was going to keep him! Eli loved playing with their daughter Sydney.

Look at this face!! Eli seemed SO big compared to Evan.

Buddies!

Thankfully we got plowed out, Sean and Michele were able to come over Sunday afternoon for dinner. They are getting married in April, so we got to hear all the fun details of their wedding planning- it makes me want to plan a wedding again! They brought us these cupcakes below from Georgetown Cupcake. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Kevin and I have been enjoying them each day. They are little delicious pieces of art.

I'm Way Behind!

Here are some pictures from our weekend in Milton (not last, the one before). We celebrated Pop's, Nan's, and Kevin's birthday.
