Weekend at Home

Honestly, where does the time go? I was just blogging about Memorial Day weekend, and here we are again at the end of another week!

We had great weather here in Maryland again this weekend. Kevin worked Saturday morning, and Eli and I stayed home and played. Eli is becoming a rough little boy. He really yanks my hair and pulls on my cheeks. And bathtime? He splashes everywhere! We're working on "be gentle" and "ouch, that hurts mommy!" It's a good thing he's so cute! He loves being tossed up in the air and held upside down. We've learned to do those tricks at our own risk. This afternoon Kevin tossed him around and got slimed with a little avocado.

This afternoon we took Eli to the little playground near our house to swing. What a process. The playground is right around the corner. Since it was sunny out, I slathered the little man with sunscreen. After all, his mom is known to burn just looking at a picture of the sun. Next, I grabbed the camera, the camcorder (I had to capture his cuteness on film), the umbrella stroller, the sunglasses, the hat, a toy for the way over, and off we went!

Memorial Day Weekend- Birthday, Pool Time, and Milestones

Today I am the big 2-9. I started out the day with a great breakfast- potato omelet, bacon, and fresh strawberries. And the best part- an ice cream cake. And yes, we ate it after breakfast. Delicious. Eli really wanted to participate in the cake- you can tell in the picture below. He's blurry from moving so fast.

The pool pictures are from Saturday. After we got back from Harpers Ferry, Eli cooled off in his turtle pool. We live in a townhouse and I thought it might be a little "white-trash" to put a baby pool on our deck. My husband assured me that it would only be white trash if he and I got in too. I guess only I would be white trash if I got in. He's ok either way, being Asian and all. :)

Sporting board shorts and a surfer shirt from Mim & Pop

He wasn't so sure about the pool this time. He cried when we dipped his feet into the water. We figured that the water might be a little chilly. Pop came to the rescue with bowl after bowl of hot water. After about 13 trips with hot water, the temperature was perfect for him. He splashed like crazy. And he doesn't seem to mind getting water on his face.

Eli reached a milestone this weekend. A tooth popped through! He had a little white dot on his bottom gum all last week, but no tooth came through until this weekend. He looks so cute. My little baby is growing up so fast. Wish me luck with nursing.

Memorial Day Weekend- Trip to Harpers Ferry

On Saturday we took a trip to Harpers Ferry, WV. It was only a 35 minute drive from our house. The weather was beautiful- not a cloud in the sky, but temperatures crept higher and higher while we were there. Eli had a lot of fun taking in the sights and sitting on his daddy's shoulders. He was such a good boy.
We walked around a bit and in true Bish fashion, we stopped for ice cream before eating lunch. Harpers Ferry is a beautiful little town, and it felt like we were transported back into Civil War times.

Here is a beautiful Catholic church that we visited. You can see just how nice the weather was.

Posing outside the church

Mim and Pop are trying to read a carving on a stone across the river. We cracked up at this picture- I couldn't have "posed" them any better. It looks like they are looking for land!

Checking out an old railroad tunnel

Eli's favorite mode of transportation- Daddy's shoulders.

Stopping for a quick pic with Pop

"Daddy, no, not in the barrel!"

Mim holding a sleeping little boy. She is a magician getting that kid to fall asleep!

Here's Kevin pretending to be a Union soldier. Blends right in, doesn't he?

We had to take a short shuttle bus ride down to the lower town. Eli was pretty excited. I was thinking that this might not be the safest idea!

Memorial Day Weekend- Fun with Mim and Pop

Mim and Pop came for a visit this weekend. They watched Eli on Friday while Kevin and I were at work. They had a very busy day playing with lots of toys and reading lots of books. Eli also went on an adventure to the playground near our house. Mim and Pop pushed him on the swing and played on the slide.

Peek-A-Boo, I See Eli

Eli plays in his crib while I get his bath stuff ready. Tonight I came in to scoop him up to take him to the tub and heard him grunting. He was on his tummy trying to stretch his head enough to see me. He finally gave up and just yanked down the bumper. Pretty smart kiddo.

"Mom, is that you?"

"I'm s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g to see you!!"

"Oh, there you are! This way is much easier!"

7 Months Old!

This has been quite the week- first Mother's Day on Sunday, then our two year anniversary was on Tuesday. And Friday Eli is seven months old.

As I sat in the rocking chair nursing Eli before bed, I looked down as his chubby little hand in mine. When he was a couple weeks old, we took a picture of Eli's tiny hand on Kevin's. The picture is hanging on the wall in the nursery. I can't believe how that hand has grown in seven months.

Speaking of that little guy, he's getting his picture taken on Sunday afternoon. In fact, the three of us are finally getting some family pictures taken. I'm crossing my fingers that the thunderstorms in the forecast miss us!

I'll leave you with a couple pictures Kevin took of Eli when they were home playing all day today.
Happy Friday!

Mother's Day Weekend

The weeks just fly by. Eli has been a busy boy and is figuring out how to do more and more each day. Let's see... no more baths in his room. We used to put the tub on a waterproof mat and give him a bath together. Not anymore. Eli loves to splash. He really makes quite a mess now. So bath time in the big tub from now on!

He also is scooting all around. He flaps his arms and legs like crazy when he wants to get somewhere. He can rotate around to get to toys that he wants and will roll to get to something. He grunts and pushes up on his arms- I have a feeling that this kid will be crawling before long. I also think I see a little white dot on his bottom gum. I don't know if I am ready for teeth! Hmm, what else? He has started practicing with a sippy cup. He knows how to hold it and put his mouth on it and has even figured out how to tip his head back a little. We also introduced bananas this weekend- not as much of a fan of them as he is with apples.

My friend Christine and her daughter Julia came over Saturday for a playdate. Julia is 3 months old and cute as a button. We tried to get their picture together, but Eli was not cooperating.

"I'm not interested in having my picture taken Mom!"

"Who is this? A girl!?!?!"

"Don't touch me. Girls have cooties!!"

Too cute for cooties

Kevin's mom, dad, Bill, Julie, and Mina came over Sunday afternoon. We were celebrating Mother's Day and Bill's 39th birthday (May 12th). Menu- grilled salmon, shrimp cocktail, potato omelet, sauteed zucchini, broccoli with szechuan sauce, and a chocolate cake that Julie brought. Kevin's mom made a spicy Korean rice cake dish, too.

Happy Birthday Bill!

What a Weekend!

Mim and Pop came to visit this weekend. We were looking forward to some fun in the sun, but the sun barely made an appearance this weekend. On a damp and rainy Saturday morning, Mim and I ventured out for the community yardsale. I didn't realize I would be such a sale shopper. Rummaging through someone's junk is not usually my idea of a good time. But we did find a few good buys. I wanted to get Eli a walk behind/ride on toy. I found a cute one for $4. He loves it. It makes lots of noises, and he's already figured out how to honk the horn all by himself. Kevin is embarrassed for Eli in this picture because he's not wearing any pants. Socks, but no pants. He's 6 months old-the look works for him. This shirt was a gift from Pop and Uncle Nathan from their ski trip to Park City, UT this past January. It says "I'm Impossible." Impossible is the perfect word for Eli's napping this weekend. He would go to sleep easily and then.... 15 minutes later, raring to go. In fact Daddy and Mommy have been trying to get the baby to nap for the past 45 minutes.
Here is Eli with another good find- Fisher Price Alphabet Blocks. Retail $24.99. Yardsale $4

Every kid needs a shape sorter. I know they aren't expensive to buy new, but you can't beat $1!
Mim and Pop brought Eli his May book- Baby Faces. He loves looking at pictures of all the little babies. On the back, they put a picture of the cutest baby of all!

Mim also helped me mix up a batch of pureed apples for Eli to try. He's a pro with his cereal, sweet potatoes, and carrots. I guess we'll find out tonight at dinner if he likes them.
We had such a fun weekend. We miss you already Mim & Pop!
