Operation Christmas Child

Our church participates in Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse, and I thought Eli might really like to fill some boxes this year. We chose two boy boxes, both ages 5-9. Eli and I went to a few stores and found some great stuff- toys and school supplies and practical things like soap and toothbrushes. We had a fun time jamming everything in the boxes. We were given a sheet to fill out with information about Eli and our family, and we glued a picture of Eli on it too.

Our church operated as a relay center this year. Our goal was to collect 500 boxes from our own congregation. We ended up collecting 812! The Frederick area as a whole collected over 10,000 boxes to send all over the world.

This year we had the option of tracking our boxes. Both of our boxes have tracking numbers, and we will receive an email about their destinations. I'm excited to see which countries they go to!

It was a great lesson for Eli to learn this season about little girls and boys that have so little. He said he was excited to "get presents for our boys so that they will be happy and won't cry." We heard that in some countries, the contents of the box are equivalent to one month's wages. That's just incredible.

We hope "our" boys have a very special Christmas this year!

We have dont OCC for many years, and the ability to track your boxes just makes it much of a joy! We did three boxes last year that all ended up in Cameroon. Emerson loves picking out "prizes" for the boxes. I hope it becomes a family tradition for you all, as it has for us!
